Medical Waste Incinerators, Iquique, Chile, South America
Inversiones Nova Terra Ltda. built a new facility with significantly more incineration capacity plus additional services after outgrowing their existing medical waste incineration facility. The incinerators at their new facility enable them to handle a larger volume of waste and more types of waste, including medical waste, ship waste, contraband, and more.
In addition to two new Firelake incinerators, their new facility has an industrial autoclave and its water purification system, industrial shredder, reception processing facility and system for medical wastes, related storage facilities, and more.
Their facility is located in the Atacama Desert, near Iquique, a growing port city in northern Chile. Their location is particularly unique. The Atacama Desert is literally the driest place on planet earth. Their last rain, a brief shower, occurred more than a decade ago. A few miles to the west, the expansive Pacific Ocean stretches as far as the eye can see.
Their location has no utilities. Their water arrives by truck. Their incinerators, other equipment, and facility are powered by diesel fuel. Their Firelake incinerators are designed to provide sustained high temperatures with lower energy consumption.
The population in this unique area is growing quickly. Their new facility processes medical waste from clinics, hospitals, and medical facilities located all over the region, safely turning medical waste into sterile ash.
Their incinerators provide the perfect solution for garbage offloaded by freighters and cruise ships docked at the Port of Iquique. Special protocols are required for handling ship waste to prevent cross-border contamination. Incineration is cost-effective and permanently renders all materials sterile and harmless.
Their incinerators are fully equipped to process all types of contraband for the Chilean government, including illegal drugs.
Incineration significantly reduces the volume of material going into the waste stream and it permanently eliminates any hazards posed by the materials before incineration. The process of incineration reduces waste volume by more than 90%. The ash which remains after an incineration cycle is sterile and safe.
Inversiones Nova Terra Ltda.'s new facility is a tremendous asset to the region, supporting medical facilities, the port, law enforcement, businesses, and the public by turning inert, potentially hazardous, and hazardous materials into safe, sterile ash.
